Chicago folk @funktastic @jcubson (I don’t remember who else lives down there) is anyone doing the Tuesday night show? Me and my mom are gonna do it

Great show in Detroit last night. I was on the aisle, directly across from Chris. Chatted w/him briefly after the show. Security was trying to kick me out until I threw up the rawk hands (cringeAF) and Chris got excited. Told him congrats on the new gig. Quick hug.

The last time my wife and I saw Purple Rain performed was at the Fox at our one and only Prince show. Kinda cool.

Go check this band out. Just a good old fashioned rock n roll show.

This is the worst part about Sturgill shows. His crowd doesn’t know how to do live music. Been to two shows and both times hated everyone around me.

Love him and his band tho.

Now that I am officially clocked in…

Man what a show. 3 hours of just straight incredible music. Worked an incredibly tense day at work. Was pretty stressed out and left about an hour later than I wanted to. The drive to Chicago is always pretty annoying when it’s just for a quick show, and this time was no different. Found a parking spot about half a mile away and as soon as I started walking just started to get a big smile on my face.

I got in about 645 and just have a general GA ticket. I see Chris at the sound board and give him a little treat and talk him up for a bit. As I’m leaving to stake out a spot, a security guard from the soundboard area gives me a premium wrist band so I can go up on the sides and some of the more raised spots. Hell yeah.

I’m riding solo so just push up to where it’s basically overlooking side stage. Music starts, im dancing like a yahoo, grinning ear to ear. Then a group of rich white ladies who think they’re cowgirls step infront of me and take up all my space. I just tell them whatever and walk around for a bit, I spend 60% or a show dancing with my eyes closed anyway. I end up near the back of the premium section where there’s an additional riser area and more space to dance. I’m feeling emotions at some songs, then they slide into midnight rider. I let out an enthusiastic “let’s fucking go” and a guy behind me agrees and we start chatting. He looks really familiar, but I can’t place it. Then two dudes and a lady infront of me start smoking and pass me a bowl. We get to chatting and I ask them if they’re umphreys people because they too look familiar, and they’re like hell yeah. If anyone knows a Scott, bigger dude, and his wife from Chicago area, tell em Cole says hi.

Then I finally place where that other guy is from. He’s my favorite employee at my favorite record store here in Madison. We always talk about niche ambient, world, and jazz stuff. Made a new friend. It just felt so good and cemented how fucking awesome the live music scene can be. Nice people there for a nice time.

Music wise, no complaints at all, what a band. This music holds a lot of emotional weight for me, so it was good to belt some lyrics out, cry some tears, and just dance off the bullshit. Literally 3 hours straight of good ol fashioned genuine music.

Also, salt shed is easily like a top 4 venue. They’ve really worked the kinks out. Killer sound all over the venue. Great prices on dope food and drinks. Beautiful skyline. And besides interstate 90 being a clusterfuck at rush hour, really easy to get to.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Was this your first time back since King Gizzard? I agree they really improved it for the 2024 season. I love how it feels more custom, I love the wooden look for the bleachers and the seats all over the venue instead of the generic green bleachers at Northerly. The top 3 rows of bleachers are more like red rocks steps as well. This is the venue Chicago always deserved and it feels like a new music hotspot.

Curious to see how packed it is, Goose was totally sold out but it was still comfortable in the pit. Hoping it’s similar tonight, I think this is already my 15th Salt Shed show. Can’t get enough of the place.

Glad you didn’t let the annoying people ruin your time, sounds like that allowed you to find way cooler people anyway!

Even sold out plenty of space to get around. And yeah last show was Gizz. I was pretty locked into ada due to the ex for that show, but it just felt great to wander around. Speakers everywhere so you never missed a note. All they need is a coffee shop and I would be set
