I have a strong dislike for those corporate cookie cutter box venues.
I thought the new Fillmore in Philly was a really nice âcookie cutterâ venue when I went there for the Biscuits four years ago. But after seeing the Biscuits at the Mission in Denver last month, I definitely think every new venue going forward should draw some inspiration from what they have going on there. That place is perfect for shows.
If they announce New Years there I might have to make it happen. Would be way easier than Atlanta.
My friends say Eastern is the best venue in ATL. Tabernacle is a shit hole. It has a cool stage and VIP seating but thats it. Its purely an enjoyable venue for the acts to play, moreso than the fans.
Have your friends seen Panic at the Fox though?
Nope! my mitten self is so used to excluding the Fox since no drug bands play our Fox as well.
Iâve seen David Copperfield twice at the Detroit Fox. Definitely wish the drug bands played there.
Saw A Perfect Circle there. Place is incredible. I think Billy Strings has a chance to be playing there his next Detroit show/run.
Whatâs good with the Mission? It looks like another cookie-cutter type spot IMO but Iâve obviously never been there
Bar setup is really nice and the stage can move.
Operated by AEG Presents (www.aegpresents.com), the Mission Ballroom, Denverâs newest music venue will attract the biggest names in the industry with a 3,950 capacity, state-of-the-art venue. This room will bring new levels of activation and draw in people from all over the country as the true heartbeat of North Wynkoop. The Mission Ballroom will feature a first-of-its-kind flexible stage, allowing for a capacity ranging from the max 3,950 down to a more intimate 2,200.
Brand new a few years ago, great sound, big bathrooms, lots of bars, balconies and redrocks style bench seating, good sight lnes, food trucks out front in the warmer months. Literally everything about the place is great.
Apparently they do outdoor shows now too but I havent been to one of those yet.
The sight lines are great throughout the venue and everything (bathrooms, bars) in the venue is designed for the size of crowd it draws (crazy, right?).
Been to a few shows where we ended up late for the size crew we were with, which forced us to the last row so we all had space. Never enjoyed a show so much from the absolute back of the venue. There really isnât a bad spot in that venue.
Dope, this place sounds awesome. Thanks for the insight guys
but are their chicken wings better than the Detroit Fillmoreâs?
Itâll probably be either that or the Masonic Temple (4,600 capacity). Masonic is probably more realistic unfortunately, they have a lot of large EDM acts come through there so theyâre more accustomed to the wook crowds. Fox theater is definitely the far superior theater though.
The Masonic temple has some really cool architecture but it isnât on the same level as the filmore or fox IMO. I do appreciate Jack White bringing that place back to life though, the more 2k+ venues we got the better.
I think youâre right. Definitely see him doing the Masonic over the Fox. Iâm happy that the Masonic is alive and well but that place is a shit show. Saw Sturgill there in â20. It was a complete nightmare. The narrow hallways w/long beer lines made it a shit show. I gave up on getting drinks by the time Sturgill started.
Didnât enjoy my expierence there seeing LCD either.
I did it all for the wookie?
I went to Umphreyâs in Cleveland the night before and when I got back to my parentâs house north of Detroit around 4AM I went on StubHub and got a ticket to LCD for like $10 iirc. That next night was crazy I took some MDxx analog and left my friendâs penthouse in Ferndale to go smoke crack at an hourly motel in Detroit. Kept partying till my phone was at 1% left the hotel and got an Uber back to my parentâs. Luckily they were out with friends went I got home so I could order a Hungry Howieâs pizza and shame feast after an intense 24 hour mini-bender.
Good god lol
