If a bass player is leading the improv that, by default, disqualifies them from being considered “bad”.
Unless it’s just trash tier improv. Like backyard high school party improv. But even then they’re usually pretty good “for high school”.

I was talking about improv being built on top of the rhythm section, not being led by the rhythm section. There’s a big difference. A mediocre bass player can handle improv being bulit from root notes and other stuff, but might not have the ability to lead a jam.
