Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part Pee)

My last show with Jake (Madison) was so boring that I didnt do any k and I still couldn’t remember anything they played the next day

I did see some incredible shows with the UM6 in 2023 and 2024 though. Buffalo 2023 (huuuuuuuge Myers show), St Louis August 2024

think you can split 2026 up into 3 segments:
Jake era - good stuff sprinkled in as usual but largely formulaic and going through the motions.
Jake absence - still an official member of the band, BB & Joel trying to take up some of the space in the songs left behind. Good jams but compositions leave a bit to be desired.
Post-Jake (July-present) - playing like a burden has been lifted. Improv throughout sets and songs stretched out like never before, compositions much tighter (compare one of the Mantis’ in June vs. the Yuba).

As long as they keep adding/reconfiguring some songs, which they seem to be doing with a lot of Jake-less debuts this last run, so the setlists don’t get stale, I think they’re gonna be in a good spot for 2027. Assuming they stay as a 5-piece long-term I do hope that BB incorporates like an octave/pitch shifter in his rig so maybe they can play like JaJunk and Tinkles again.

No Tinkles is the biggest crime for me about this current era. I could be okay with a little fascism if thats what it takes to see Tinkles again

have to stop the world just to stop the feeling

Yeah not a memorable show at all. Can’t remember any song they played and I was sober enough.

maybe The Floor near the end I remember.

Happy this 5 piece UM is locking in and crushing.

Actually I do remember one thing from the show immediately - the Educated Guess vocals were very good with Scotty, maybe the best I’ve ever heard them

For anyone considering the Memphis show on 10/1 tickets are currently $9.01 for some kind of 9/1 sale or something

Moos 10/16 at aliveOne. Have to go on Thursdays and stay for the band that’s playing to enter the raffle. This is a tiny bar. Maybe 100 people will be in attendance.

What’s the line up of this Moos formation?

I assume BB Stasik Jamie Scotty

Buddy Weezer is an incredible mashup that I’m so lucky to have caught (at the site of Buddy Holly’s last show)

i mean it’s not much of a mashup it’s basically Buddy Holly (the Weezer song) but the way they incorporate Buddy Holly (the singer) is brilliant

Going as a +1 through my buddy’s work connects. Pretty pumped. Last time aliveone / UM did this he brought our other buddy who proceeded to get fall down drunk so i just cant do that. Which i think is doable.

They need to bring it back. I thought it was great in the moment.

Also Clear Lake Iowa surprised me. Not a bad town and the Surf Ballroom was nice too.
