Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part Pee)

Probably my favorite version of Wellwishers! I love that segment

I feel like there’s a really great version from higher ground in the early 2010’s as well

One of my favorite bort debates of all time

I still maintain that it’s a JaJunk jam (the time stops and they restart with a new tempo and key which 100% belongs to JaJunk) but I care a lot less about arguing about it than I did 14 years ago

The Jajunk jam is just a bunch of teases. It’s definitely a Wellwishers jam

Team wellwishers jam on this one

I could rehash my argument of why I consider it a JaJunk jam but it’s not really a rule that I think I’ve ever applied anywhere else so it’s kinda pointless

Nothing Too Fancy is its own thing because the improv leading up to the reprise is often (but not always) tracked separately instead of just being the ending of the track for the song before. I don’t think there are any other songs where that is standard

I did some new press photos for them over the weekend. 2 of those are on the newly updated site

Interesting timing for them to update the site and reinstate the band member pages

Was driving real slow earlier today cause there was a silver Explorer behind me with a big black metal front bumper and looked like a light on top. I was like thats gotta be a cop.

Dude passed me and his license plate is NOTACOP

Very UM related

UM and Joel are promoting the next show as Night-zero for Phish. Really hate to see a younger band dumb themselves down for a dying jam band.

It doesnt work the same when the “dying” band is still playing multiple nights at sheds and jams more in a weekend than UM does in a tour.

I still appeciate the effort, though.

Nope. You’re wrong, because i said so. i think reverting to your 98/99 strategy is not the greatest sign of how things are really going

Probably not the worst idea though. might be their biggest crowd of the tour.

thing is, a lot of phish fans probably made up their mind about them 25 years ago when Brendan had a much worse singing voice.

I dont fully understand this. Still stand behind the statement from yesterday that most of the plugs felt hollow and ingenuine, simply for the sake of trying to give UM a boost.

Edit: NM, i am high. It took me a second.

I respect your commitment to saying “fuck Umphreys” and the fact that this take is very definitely you. I feel like 90% of fans of either band would enjoy a 1 or 2 week run of shows with Squeaky Feet opening for UM. I would imagine members of Squeaky Feet would be excited for the opportunity to tour and play with them. I don’t know the economics of whether it would be good for Squeaky Feet but the idea that it would actually hurt them seems pretty silly to me. I’m also just using Squeaky Feet as an example but there is a whole generation of bands with guitar players who have listened to thousands of hours of Umphreys and would love the opportunity to actually play with them. Sure it’s a gimmick to help UM but it’s not like it wouldn’t be fun for the fans and the other bands - and it’s not like the concept of a band opening for another band on tour is some crazy suggestion
