Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part Pee)

Anybody on this board go to the 2011 fest set where John Oates sat in with UM, and they performed I Can’t Go For That? Saw a 1348 on there that could’ve been technically a 30 minute version but they tracked the jams.

Another question, wasn’t there some fest show that UM played, that famously never made it to Nugs, during this time?

Thought one of the Waka sets recording got messed up due to the monsoon rain storm they were playing in?

You ever do Blotto Hotel or whatever it was called? Watermelon Steve always spoke highly of it for a local event. Speaking of WS, I think he had Mr Blotto at his inaugural Melon Camp circa 2008 or 2009.

Andy was a guest on this podcast. I think maybe these are 3 kids who go to IU, and this was recorded when they were in Bloomington a few weeks ago. They don’t really seem to know anything about the band. It’s kind of a hard listen at times. This is also definitely the most I’ve ever heard him speak.

To be honest there were some radio interviews I was probably equally as terrible. And once I got into other stations outside of college I had to do or two a week. That’s when I learned that I was not well learned at vent able to do a concise interview that was live and you had to really navigate around the person being interview, catching their nervousness, level or preparedness or just like slowing down the information reveal outport. I did one interview where they literally just rambled through all the talking points after two questions and I had like 4 minutes left to go in the time breaks

I was really good at not live or constructed interviews where it could have it be a discussion vs talking points

5;30 am ramblings aside, it’s a hard skill that a lot of people don’t realize:

I have zero knowledge on drums or rhythm in general but would there be a technical reason why Scotty doesn’t play the little drum intros in Higgins and Front Porch to kick off the song?

Scotty doesn’t know

This sounds very similar to the idea I tried to get off the ground in 2013 called VolUMTer. Excited to see what this is about once they release more information. I’ve always felt a community focused on direct action around touring schedules would make a lot of sense. I was thinking a replicable idea in every city that is nonpartisan like walking shelter dogs or handing out necessities to unhoused people could be a good use of our collective effort on tour stops. I tried to get a bunch of people to come to the Denver Food Bank to volunteer during the New Years run that year but it ended up falling apart after receiving a lot of interest including from the band.

Nice! Will be interesting to see what they choose to support in the various communities, wonder if it will be more Kids music education funding as that seems to be their typical go to which is highly commendable, good for them to be in a position to help support causes that they care about either individually or as a group.

And now I’m thinking about Zoolander…“IS THIS A SCHOOL FOR ANTS” haha i need to rewatch that now…its been a while…had to add the clip…Center not school..still hilarious
