If you want a full day , the hike to Graybeard is great and the trailhead really close to pisgah. A bit further is the Mt Mitchell Trail that leaves from black mountain campground. It’s pretty strenuous amazing to see the changing terrain from the narrow river valley up into the spruce-fir forest at the top. You have to go through Burnsville to get to that trailhead, much longer drive and that area has catastrophic impacts from Helene.
For shorter hikes, I think it’s like an hour to drive to the Mt Mitchell summit area from downtown Asheville on Town Mountain Rd + BRP and there’s several good shorter trails and overlooks with views.
That’s all east of Asheville, which is the nearest part to both Charlotte and black mountain.

I’ve convinced my “wife” to make a plan to spend about 5 days down in this area for Memorial Day weekend. I need to make this happen for many reasons, and will definitely be looking to see some invisible internet friends.

Looks like a fun spot to see a show. Feel like no one i care about is small enough to play there though. Maybe if Biscuits get good again. Otherwise i am holding out for Squeaky Pines Campout 2028.

Easy as fuck to sell you on it: let’s take our kids camping in GORGEOUS SW Montana and do fun family stuff during the day and see Umphreys at night in the best venue ever.
also, would maybe consider getting one of their lodging options to put the kids to bed essentially at the show.
I could theoretically bring a big ass raft and we could float the Yellowstone river too…

I already bought a flight to San Diego that weekend to kick it in SoCal for a few days before the Paul Simon concert there but I think I’m going to rebook my flight so I don’t leave until the 9th. I had a flight to Bozeman last year for this but bailed at the last minute and ate my fare. Someone scoop me in Bozeman I’m going to fly in for this one. Closest they are playing this summer.
