And this is when they play whatever themes are fed to them? When did this happen pre-UMBowl?
It started as the stew art series. They would do it before the scheduled show similar to VIP sets now. The shows that followed were usually above average as well due to band being loose

2008ish saw some
I went to one of the first stew art shows in Asheville when I was like 16. We were too young to get into the main show lol. I think I got a signed poster, wonder where that went.
they added the fan voting stuff for UM bowl iirc.
IIRC they started them in 2009. They would be held on select dates throughout a tour. Each required a separate ticket and would be held a few hours before the main show. They would do two or three improv segments broken up with audience Q&A, and the band would mingle afterwards. Attendees got the recording and open bar access.
100% saw one DC run November ‘08. 2008‐2009 for the OG S2s then on to UMBowls
