The Grateful Dead is literally one of the top-grossing rock bands of all time. We arent talking about UM, or even Phish. The Grateful Dead is an American institution.
not surprising that people wouldnât recognize a musician from the 60s who died almost 30 years ago.
Yeah itâs anecdotal but I donât recall ever hearing a Dead song when I listened to classic rock radio through most of high school.
I also just hear way more of bands and singers like those when just generally out in public as well.
I have literally never seen that man in my life.
You guys are basing talent arguments on the quantity of fame which is one of the dumbest most flawed arguments in music history. Youâre better than that!
Thatâs jerry dude
I agree
damn. I only know what his voice sounds like.
Does that make Phil Lesh one of the most recognizable bass players?
Iâve also never heard the dead on classic rock radio.
Me neither
great point. But he was murdered and the Beatles were like the biggest band ever so maybe a bit different.
but again, great point.
The whole point was I was surprised to see folks trying to compare Jerrry Garcia to Brendan Bayliss. Even if we are simply talking vocals. Yes, that take continues to surprise me. It doesnt offend me, but it is very surprising.
Especially when you consider how iconic and recognizible Jerry is. That was the point of bringing it up. Like, who the hell is BB? That is where I was getting with that.
Now letâs compare Jerry with Guy Fieri
donât tell me flavortown ainât got no heart
You mean that band with the skull and the lightning bolt?
I donât think anyone I know without an established deep appreciation for music could name more than 2 or 3 dead songs.
Robert Hunter > Hunter Fieri
I think more people could pick Guy Fieri out of a line up compared to Jerry. So Guy is obvs a better singer.
You made the comparison
