thinking about this, might have to swap Elvis with Bruce. Elvis has been dead almost 50 years, nobody’s playing his shit anymore. But Bruce? that born in in the USA ass is everywhere.
I beach off to BMo ballads.
as per usual.
You could make that argument for sure. Hard to disagree with it.
It’s attitudes like this that allowed Twiddle to thrive

I was just interested in exploring the most recognizable rock voice claim. In the context of mainstream rock music, I just don’t think your average music fan is going to recognize him. Put on any classic rock radio station and you’ll hear the singers I mentioned all day, every day. Meanwhile, you’d be lucky to hear a single Dead tune.
@Random_Ass, tell me more about your childhood, why did your parents hate hippies and why did they do all that they could to shelter you from Jerry?
In any given day most classic rock stations are going to play either Touch of Grey, Truckin’, Casey Jones, and in some cases even Uncle John’s Band. That one is more rare.
The other three get plenty of airtime, though, and have since I was a little kid.
Our shop listens to 93.1 XRT (alternative rock) at work and the GD gets plenty of play. Uncle John’s Band, Touch of Grey, Ripple, Friend of the Devil, Sugar Magnolia all get decent play.
Sure not as much as Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen but it’s played.
I mean there is a reason they were playing stadiums by the end of their career and continued to sell out stadiums even after Jerry died, and as recently as last month.
Maybe a better way to describe Jerry’s popularity in the mainstream is not so much his music/voice but his name.
Jerry Garcia is a household name. Every old person knows Jerry Garcia was the lead in the Grateful Dead. Not every old person would be able to recognize Jerry singing a Dead song.
because of the ties, right?
they’ve been at Kohl’s for decades.
Because of the ties. And because all of the Ronald Reagan loving olds know he did drugs and died from drugs.
Yeah that’s what I was speaking to here
I guess “the reason” wasn’t Jerry’s voice then…
“One of the most recognizable voices in American Rock History” and “Recognized for his voice” are two different discussions though
and I’m not sure which one we’re discussing.
Boom. Roasted.
I think people are downplaying how recognizable his voice is a bit, but at least we arent trying to compare him to Bayliss anymore.
I am kinda surprised Brokedown Palace never got more radio time. Seems like such a radio friendly song.
I can’t tell if you’re being serious, but very very obviously teen spirit wins this one
