Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part Pee)

Pete Herzog is a fake name. Sounds like Waful to me.

Devadas George? Cmon

at least Devadas George doesn’t sound like an elite Nazi

He is real, and the same guy who directed the new doc. Also had a hand in the roctopus poster/app thing and some other things. I met him a few times when I was seeing lots of shows in the early 2010s and he is a nice guy.

You’re telling me Peter’s Hog is a real person?

Honestly this thing is a goddamn work of art compared to “Reel to Real”

Umphrey’s no longer has the most obnoxiously long album name in the biz now. King Gizzard beat out:

You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall And Left A Raging Bull

PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation

Not album titles, but these approach Red Sparowes song titles.

I don’t know the Red Sparowes but haha holy shit you are not wrong:

No. Title Length
1. Alone and Unaware, the Landscape was Transformed in Front of Our Eyes 8:27
2. Buildings Began to Stretch Wide Across the Sky, And the Air Filled with a Reddish Glow 7:22
3. The Soundless Dawn Came Alive as Cities Began to Mark the Horizon 4:18
4. Mechanical Sounds Cascaded Through the City Walls and Everyone Reveled in Their Ignorance 11:19
5. A Brief Moment of Clarity Broke Through the Deafening Hum, but It Was Too Late 5:59
6. Our Happiest Days Slowly Began to Turn into Dust 5:40
7. The Sixth Extinction Crept Up Slowly, Like Sunlight Through the Shutters, as We Looked Back in Regret (actual song ends at 11:57; silence for 4:00; untitled hidden track 3:35[5]) 19:30

Checking this out now and the sound us rough… is this happening for anyone else? Super blown out, sounds like an aud recording kind of, volume levels are all over the place. But either way, watching hatless Jaco with the butterscotch gives me a fuzzy feeling in my tum tum.

Edit: I’m an idiot, this is the '09 Tulsa show. And this Haunt is fucking sick

Going though Stews and halfway through 2016…holy shit 2015 and 2016 offer very little in terms of quality improv…this 7/2/16 ITK is the first jam in a year and a half that has much substance.

2015 was such a garbage year. I had a lot of killer shows in 2016, so I’m biased, but yeah there were def some runs that were garbage

I did the redman madison run, the minneapolis shows, Des Moines>red rocks, and some fall shows I probably can’t remember.

Was fall 2015 any good?

That was literally the one jam in two years besides a handful of repeats that I enjoyed. IIRC things start getting more interesting again in 2017.

The Ringo from Chucktown Ball was good too, that’s about it…
