I think both songs are just so clearly formed from jams and lego’d together that they’ve never felt like real songs. I always get them mixed up too. Even now I had to go listen to both. I don’t mind them, but I’m never overly excited to hear them

I think someone who isn’t accustomed to BB’s voice would probably think that he sounds terrible on both songs. Since we are used to bayliss’s voice and have swooned over him years it doesn’t bother us as much

Still doesn’t help, lol. On “Make It Right,” he isn’t straining or reaching for notes; I quite like the delivery and how it moves along with the melody beneath.

Curious as to what you would offer as good Brendan vocals.

Same. Conversely, in Mad Love both the vocals and main guitar progression (mainly due to Jake’s overly distorted tone choice) are so grating to my ears.

I actually don’t mind the MiR vocals at all, they’ve definitely gotten stuck in my head before, and lyrically they’re not bad. I just like the sound of Mad Love more.

I can’t really give a technical critique lol, the vocals have always just sounded off to me. I like how bayliss sounds on most songs, but there are definitely those where his voice just doesn’t fit as well (water being another big one for me, even though I love that song)

Water is so love/hate for me. Maybe this belongs in the hot takes thread, but the first few minutes are just awful. Those verses…ugh. But then when it gets uptempo and bouncy, the entire rest of the song is awesome. Perfect example along the lines Bayliss vocals I don’t like at all.

The instrumental parts of that song are legit genius imo, but the bayliss vox have always sounded off to me. And if they sound bad to a bayliss fanboi such as myself I can only imagine how an uninitiated umphreys listener would feel about them
