Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part 1)

Been a minute since I’ve listened. I’ll put it on today.

That GIB from 7/17/2010 is always a fun listen

Listening to these SBD mixes from 2010 reminds me of how much of an upgrade Chris was from KB.

Is this Bump > Aisle > Bump? If so, I agree.

Yes

Struggling to think of any great examples off the top of my head (That Kabump and the Wappy and GiB from HOF along with 2/14/2010 Nemo are what put the thought in my mind.) There were some really solid Taurus/edrum jams in late summer/early fall, IIRC.

Joel should tour with a grand piano

So many nightmares. Logistics, keeping it tuned, sound check. As much as I love the flavor of real strings that’s a pipe dream unfortunately.

Lol, let’s start with his Kimball baby grand first!

Even some arena bands won’t bring along grand pianos. UM definitely isn’t bringing one along

I think Joel’s piano sound is better than a lot of DI’d/mic’d pianos. Seen Elton a bunch of times and think his piano sounds like shit. Page’s too. Kinda tinny and nasty

Duh

Just listened to this for this first time, very awesome. The way they creep into Aisle but the tempo is sped is up, it’s nice

Hell yeah. It’s so buttery how they slowly work their way into it. I thought of it as slinking into the Aisle but creeping works too. Such a great ->

Continued my exploration of the 2010 shows I have on a hard drive last night. The biggest difference from current UM is the band’s patience. The IC and Utopian from 8/6/2010 are great examples of nice jams that get elevated by Jake having big ears and adding texture instead of launching in like Godzilla in pursuit of #PEAKZ. Not JotY caliber but both are fun little linear dance parties that don’t happen any more. The Swerving was pretty solid too.

Its been a while since I’ve listened to it, but the Wellwishers from Missoula in October I remember being very good. Not really untz’y but worth a listen

edit: 10/9/10 is the date

That Wappy is amazing iirc, nice little jam after the composition (after “who could deny that pull” that nowadays segues into another song) too that leads > Snucka. They certainly don’t do em like that anymore

When I sing “who could deny that pull” in my head I immediately hear a bridgeless finish or beginning of Higgins for some reason. Proof positive that Wappy definitely almost always segues into another song, ha.
