Dont even think about it
Not sure what I’m supposed to be thinking about?
I need to explore Fall 2013. Where should I start, fam?
I mean honestly that whole tour was awesome. I’d start from the beginning with this heater:
10.16.2013 HIGHER GROUND, SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT, USA
Set 1: Pay the Snucka > Push the Pig, Phil’s Farm[1], Cemetery Walk, Prowler > Much Obliged[2] -> Cinnamon Girl > Pay the Snucka[3]
Set 2: Jessica, White Man’s Moccasins, Conduit, Dump City, Dr. Feelgood > Higgins > Front Porch[4]
Encore: Hangover > Who Knows > Hangover
[1] with Don’t You Forget About Me (Simple Minds) jam
[2] with Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (Jimi Hendrix) tease
[3] with Bulls On Parade (Rage Against the Machine) jam
[4] with Norwegian Wood (The Beatles) jam
Notes:
with La Grange (ZZ Top) tease before Dr. Feelgood
last Cinnamon Girl 03.04.2008 (639 shows)
Also make sure to check out this one:
10.30.2013 KALAMAZOO STATE THEATRE, KALAMAZOO, MI, USA
Set 1: Depth Charge > Slacker, Intentions Clear > Uncle Wally, Crucial Taunt, Blue Echo -> Out Of Order, Mail Package, Fame
Set 2: In The Kitchen, Smell the Mitten[1], Resolution > Conduit, Girlfriend is Better > Mullet (Over)
Encore: Bright Lights, Big City
[1] with Jake on percussion
Seconded on 10.16.13 - my first visit to Vermont and @sociablehodor scooped me from the airport in Manchester so that was cool/appreciated.
The next two nights (Bridgeport and Northhampton) are worth a spin too. That was a fun run. Pretty sure that is where I met @gatroe too.
Basically a new Bort meeting of the minds that run was.
Great run in the NE that year. BeaverPhreak I might’ve met you at one of those shows, I def hung out with some borters in Noho (I think it was that year anyway).
Burly was so good
Don’t sleep on State College, PA show from that tour. Resolution > Mulche’s is some of the best extended (30+ min) pieces I’ve heard them do in a LONG time
This is a pretty solid show. The opening Bridgeless made it onto the podcast (when those were still a thing…) for one of the fall tour highlights. Whole 1st set flows really nicely even tho there is no improv aside from the opening punch Bridgeless. Really it’s all about the 2nd set with a nearly 40 minute opening segment of Reso -> Mulche’s. The jam Reso is very nice and when it eventually leads to Mulche’s it’s one of the better ->'s I’ve heard from them. Mulche’s gets pretty out there. What is now aka Yoga Pants -> OoO is a nice pairing. The KaBump also has a short but sweet dancey/ominous vibe to it. Fun show, good show, jolly good show
10.21.2013 THE STATE THEATRE, STATE COLLEGE, PA, USA
Set 1: You Got the Wrong Guy > Bridgeless, Preamble > Mantis Ghetts > Dance Hall Days, #5 > Nemo > Atmosfarag > Nemo, Padgett’s Profile, Morning Song > Bridgeless
Set 2: Resolution -> Mulche’s Odyssey -> Tomorrow Never Knows[1] > Mulche’s Odyssey, White Pickle -> Out Of Order, Black Water, Kabump -> Pipeline > Kabump
Encore: The Floor
[1] one verse
Notes:
with White Summer/Black Mountain Side (Led Zeppelin) tease before Black Water
last Tomorrow Never Knows 11.15.2009 (435 shows)
10/16 for sure. 10/18 as well, and that Kzoo show at the end of the month with IC and Blecho. 10/30 I believe?
Edit: 10/17 is a Wyllys setlist. Cruel Summer should’ve stayed in rotation. Great cover.
Chicago is booked for the day before I assume UM’s Red Rocks run would be happening 2021. Where’s Buddy Guy at?
what day do you assume the RR run will be
June 18-20
Considering this is a “rescheduling” I think they’ll play basically the same weekend they had booked this year since most other fests tried to keep their slots consistent.
Thanks yall
Fall 13 is easily one if the best tours of the past decade. 10/16, 10/26 and 10/30 are prob all time top 100 UM shows and there are a lot of other gems along the way.
Going into this tour it seems like Stasik added or removed a pedal and was really loud in the mix and playing around with a super alien distorted tone (see 10/16 Dump) and this was also when Joel added the mellotron and so was using it heavily. I think this experimentation from Joel and Stasik is really what spurred so many interesting jams on the tour.
Mellotron ter
Kzoo>milwookie from that ter is still probably my all time favorite run of shows. Peak um right there
For me this is easily my favorite run still to this day. I was a yuck buck for this for sure but it still holds up
Yeah Fall 2013 was awesome.
And I may or may not be Eric.
