My “wife” and I used to be big into GSBG (how we met actually, CHI NYE hot dog hat in a random gas station). Anyways, her former friend group has a lot of 100+ show folks in it. I texted her about this and she immediately said “can confirm”

Somehow I am not very shocked, though. Have you seen pictures of Paul pre-beard? Dude was pretty weird looking. So you take some guy who was probably awkward, ugly, and never got laid, and you put some beard on him, get him singing some sweet songs in a hypnotic voice, and next thing you know every hippie chick this side of the Mississippi Half Step want you to make their sugary magnolias blossom’s bloom

I love that album, but they continued to lean hard into that style but the songs got progressively worse. They’re just not good enough pickers to lean on the real bluegrass stuff

I left 2017 NYE at like 12:03, god that show was boring as shit.
I am not very hip to the actual GSBG scene or history, is there a reason Anders seems to be so universally hated? I have always enjoyed his playing, but I also never really paid much attention to them prior to him joining. I also have never really been one to listen to them outside of seeing them live.

I know that is what pomas has always mentioned. I personally don’t mind it at all, but I can see how it would be very annoying for an old fan if that did not use to be a thing. Sometime I hate it when Billy Strings uses distortion, too, but I have warmed up to it more recently.
I hate the distortion, find his playing pretty boring, and his constant banter unbelievably annoying

Yeah it was rough but I loved that hat, lost in drunk in Wisconsin last summer. Billy opening was also really damn good. The next NYE run they had Jeff Austin band opening so at least they knew how to pick their openers.
Their NYE encore in '17 was playing Hot Dogs (On Parade) for the fourth time and the Gimme Some Lovin cover for the second time in the show. So fucken lame even if they did hand everybody a kazoo.
