No problem. Any of the places that @toomanypomas42 or I mentioned will be great. You’ll enjoy.
SheWolf - have only done the tasting menu there because that’s typically what my wife and I do when we go out to nice spots. I’m sure you can’t go wrong. Because of covid, I think you can only do the tasting menu if you’re inside and a la carte if for outside?
Mabel Gray - super small spot. So definitely stay on it if you want reservations. Ferndale Project is nearby and does hazy IPAs and fruity kettle sours. Urbanrest does some kombucha, a few hazy IPAs, and some more traditional European brews. Ferndale Project has a pretty big/cool outdoor area.
Any places to eat a pizza near here? Looks like no dine-in, so would be cool to post up at a park or a brewery/bar that doesn’t serve food. Checked out a few nearby places but they seemed to all serve their own food, so they obviously wouldn’t be too keen on someone bringing in a pie or two.
This place is on our list (I have a diagnosable coney addiction), but looks like it closes 10pm. Shows start at 7:30, so could probably make it if we skip the encore (which let’s be real, we probably will). Think it’s doable?
Also wanted to try Buddy’s for post-show grub since there’s one downtown, but seems like closing time might be a concern there, too. Saw a pizza joint (or club with pizza) called Niki’s that’s open late, so it could be an option - any thoughts on if it’s worth trying?
Tagging in @iamkickinit just in case he has any input or strong thoughts on any of the above. Will definitely return the favor for you guys if you ever find yourselves in Louisville or Columbus.
Buddy’s closes early, that might be a better lunch/early dinner spot, I would do that pre-show instead of after if you want Detroit Style downtown. Plus they have dine-in. Shields has a spot in midtown that has dine in also. I’ve never had pizza at Niki’s before so I can’t give any opinions on that place, I’ve only drank there.
As far as Lafayette goes I’m not sure how accurate those hours are, I don’t think i’ve ever been there before 10pm, it’s a drunken late night stop. Covid might effect those hours but I was there late night a couple weekends ago so they probably extended their hours. I’m sure they’ll be open late on memorial day weekend. As far as post-show grub you can’t beat lafayette.
I got tickets to atleast one night of the Billy run in Louisville the weekend before UM, i’ll probably get at you for some recs
Brew Detroit used to let you bring your own food and is pretty close to Michigan/Trumbull. I’d start there. If that doesn’t work, you may need to resort to a park. Check out Campus Martius which is right downtown (a mile from Michigan/Trumbull). I haven’t been there in covid times but they used to have tons of tables w/umbrellas.
While I’m w/@toomanypomas42 in prefering Lafayette over American, I always encourage every first timer to get a coney from each to determine for themselves which is better as its part of the experience. They’re awfully similar.
Niki’s pizza is serviceable Detroit style. It’s not my favorite but it’s still pretty good. I generally stray away from Greektown area unless I’m hitting the casino, which doesn’t happen often.
I got an email from ticketbastard saying the same… I already purchased my tickets for Baltimore. Curious to see if they will provide some information as to why. Primus is playing the same venue the next night…that better not cancel too.
