Plan Bee Tour

I thought Det had a possibility of getting cancelled, until I found out Whitmer’s favorite song is acoustic YAYA.

These are very solid recs. Not much to add honestly.

Obviously go to Lafayette for post show coneys. Walkable from the venue.

Probably a long shot but does anyone have an extra spot in their car for the ATL shows they are looking to fill? I had booked a flight and secured an Airbnb when my expected driver ended up bailing on the shows…

I think the shows happen, Whitmer has come out and said she isn’t going to pursue further lockdowns. I think she’s given up on that, the last couple times she did that a bunch of crazy idiots stormed the capitol building in Lansing with guns and there was also that whole plot to kidnap and kill her. As of now she’s just “recommending” people to stay home. Her attitude seems to be “whatever, I tried to keep you safe, y’all are on your own now”.

Hoping numbers start to drop in the next couple weeks, I can’t see them staying this high for the next 5-6 weeks or so until the shows.

I completely forgot about the plot to kidnap and fucking kill her. It’s super sad that she has that mindset now of “tried to keep you safe but you are all idiots” but I don’t blame her in the slightest.

Fingers crossed the numbers go down a bit over the next two weeks. Any more than that without a change in the rate at which people are getting it and it could force a reaction

Whaddya got for fine dining recs? Have a few on our list, but always interested to hear suggestions from a local.

Selden Standard, Marrow, Roast, Prime & Proper and Ottava Via are all really good. Go to Roast if you want some fire cuts of steak. Prime & Proper or Marrow are both top notch too. Selden has great small plates and cocktails. My good friend has been the sous chef at half of these places and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

No way any socially distant shows are getting cancelled at this point in the vaccine roll out. Maybe back in March, but no chance in late May when every adult is eligible.

Selden Standard and Roast were both ones we were looking at very closely, good to have some confirmation that they’re solid.

We’re actually staying at The Westin, so would be really hard to skip Roast either way, I’m sure. Any clue if they’re still closed for Covid? Google Maps doesn’t have them tagged as temporarily closed anymore, but the site still seems to say closed.

Ottava Via looks ridiculously good (actually reminds me a lot of this place in Louisville called bar Vetti) and seems very reasonably-priced. Think we’ll have to hit it up and then grab a pizza from Michigan & Trumbull to make sure we really hate ourselves after we’re done eating.

One of my friends is still the sous at Roast and they’re open. Roast was one of the first really nice restaurants to open downtown and they’ve been consistently good ever since. Last I heard The Westin is closing so Roast might go with it, so it might not be around too much longer.

Good to know, will definitely plan on stopping in. Definitely dig that it was one of the trailblazers for the return of fine dining to downtown.

Selden Standard is great, love it there. Roast is more of that traditional steakhouse vibe, great steaks.

Couple others that I’d recommend:

Chartreuse - love this place. Not often I salivate over a salad, but their salad is amazing. Has a twice cooked egg (soft boiled > flash fried) and the yolk acts as dressing. Omg I love it. Rest of the food is fantastic, too.

SheWolf - amazing stuff here. Roman food, basically similar to Italian. Pastas and some more protein heavy dishes. Phenomenal.

Mabel Gray - this is up in Hazel Park (15 min north), next to Ferndale. My absolute FAVORITE restaurant in Michigan. If you’re into beer, you could go to Ferndale Project and Urbanrest breweries and then get dinner.

You’re gonna need a reservation. Usually you can make them 30 days in advance. Even before the pandemic, these places filled up almost immediately. With operating capacities reduced, they go quicker. I’d recommend booking a reservation the first day you’re able to.

Those all look unreal! Mabel Gray looks very up our alley, just wish it was a little closer to downtown. But we definitely love beer, so at least we can check out those breweries while we’re up that way.

Really intrigued by SheWolf and their focus on Rome. Any strong feelings on their tasting menu vs. a la carte? We tend to lean towards tasting menus, but that a la carte menu looks hard to pass up.

Definitely appreciate the input, and thanks for passing along the reservation info. You know a place is popular when you open their reservation page and it’s Tock…
