I first saw UM in 2016. I’m assuming if you saw them in 2006 and still talking about the “glory days” you are just washed and need to visit your grand children

Modern UM is better you just had more endorphins back in the day before all the powders messed up your brain chemistry

If older UM is better, why wasn’t Sultan a fan back then?

It all started going downhill once Jake started wearing a hat every show.

Who cares?
Not the GOAT year but a top tier year
I also hate the logic behind that point. Just because I wasn’t seeing the band in ‘04, my opinion is flawed? Musicians usually don’t get worse the longer they play music together.

I subscribe to this school of thought. People love to romanticize the past and sometimes let the feeliings they forgot prevent them from having new feelings. I like new feelings and the four Umphrey’s shows I caught last month (being seeing the band 15 years) gave me all sorts of feels.

I love the band now just as much as I did back when I first started listening to them in 2004 but it is just different nowadays.

I’ll take testing my butt drugs and single source hash rosin any day over smoking flower and having greedy pinkies looking for friendly dips. Definitely agree its different now than then but I think the good outweighs the bad when I reflect on the changes.

I don’t think getting into the band later means someones opinion is not as valid, I was just saying I don’t know of anyone who was seeing them during all the top years who think they are currently at their peak, at least in terms of improvisation. You guys are smart, though, you know that. Like what you like, dont like what you like. This place would be boring if we couldn’t fight over insignificant details.

More often than not that’s probably going to be the case with any fan of any band. People become attached to the sound that get them into a band in the first place.

9/14/2008 Tribute

My favorite Tribute. Fat groove followed by the swamp-y rock section, with the 1/2 step up boogie that gets an loud *YEAH!" from Jake on the SBD. Bounces back to the groove section and then shifts into a soaring uplifting section that only UM can do.

This is from the rescheduled Tabernacle show after they had to cancel the second night of the STUM tour closer in August the month before, correct?

I have a friend from Atlanta who I remember texting me about the Tribute when it was going down. Will have to revisit it; probably haven’t listened to it since they dropped the board.
