I’d rather not have another guitarist at this point. It would be another weird thing to have to get through as a fan. 5 piece UM moving forward is fine with me. I’d rather that than force a 2nd guitar just cuz.
The VC conclave doesn’t have the bort in great standing right now. Doubt this is a buy low moment. I think it’s dead.
The bort got AOL’ed.
Michael… Houser?
yeah he’s pretty good at guitar…vibe is a lil diff but i think it could work
@root carpet bomb the fuck outta people by mailing free trial bort CDs like AOL in the late 90s. that’ll get the numbers up
the band is pretty happy with the dynamic right now AFAIK. I don’t think adding a new member is their highest priority after having someone fill Kris’ shoes.
They have a pretty large catalog and developed playing style, and on top of that adding new people causes interpersonal challenges as well.
For a band that’s been going through a lot of that the past few years, I highly suspect they will keep things lighter for a while and try to find their sea legs
Bummed but not surprised. Think I’m gonna call it a career at 119 shows. It was a good run.
Chris
They’re not getting another guitar player. This band is playing woolys in des monies on a Friday night.
To be honest, my favorite umph shows have been at smaller shitty venues. Like the orbit room in 2014.
Same here. Time marches on and the band has families to think about. If they want to survive paying one less band member is a great start.
If they were to ever add another guitarist, Rob would be my preference. I think he’s still playing with Neighbor
Just got my PTO approved for that one. The 2012 show there was alot of fun.
And 2013 late nite set crushed
2016 late night North Coast fest (RIP) crushed as well.
Yeah that show absolutely rips. Simon Estes will always have my des monies heart tho
What a bummer but yeah expected. Jake deserves to start something new. UM continued downfall imminent. How will they pull off half their catalog now
Oh well, Mishawaka shows last year will be a nice last memory for me seeing him with the band. Haven’t listened to a peep of the Jake-less shows this year or really anything since the Mish and probably won’t. Can’t imagine devoting any real time or energy to seeing them in the future as is. One less band to take my money and makes the decision to skip the Mish this year an easy one.
So sad. Like many of you, ive been seeing Jake play guitar multiple times a year for the majority of my life. Jake is by far my favorite guitar player and its sad to see him leave um. I hope he can continue playing and touring asap.
On the other side, losing kris and jake in a bit over a year is tough. Obviously beyond jokes we dont know whats going on, but I wish the best for the future of um whatever that looks like.
