This is the outlook that I’m having on it, however, I think the time to successfully bounce back is on a pretty short clock before fans really give up.
I think the new album early next year will get their creative juices flowing again and everyone will be pleased.
Is this the much rumored Zonk-quel?
Made a similar comment above.
That said, this is the bort and a lot of what is said here is not serious.
I feel like UM has been on a steady decline in popularity for a while now. There are parts of the nation where their popularity grew (CO, NYC, maybe a couple others) but I feel like in terms of the MW, South, Pac NW, WC they kinda peaked in like 2008-2010.
Maybe if they booked dates that weren’t during the biggest west coast jam fest to play west coast summer shows lol. I heard Anaheim was BOGO it sold so poorly.
Unless you’re phish, goose, or billy strings, are in the jam scene, and have once reached tier 4 or better, you regressed. The jam scene isnt what it used to be anymore as far as had to be there sensations.
They blew up in the south well after 2010
You think so? I feel like they were selling better down there in 2010 than they have the last 5+ years.
They peaked in the south between 2012-2018 as far as I can tell. I mean they did 5 nights at the Tab and IIRC came very close to a full sell out. I doubt that could’ve happened in 08
That is fair, I just know they sold the Tabby out in 2010 on a non-holiday weekend, and sold all those 2012 shows out, and the 2011 Halloween. So maybe 2008 isnt fair, but I dont think they were any more popular down there in 2015 than they were in 2010-2012.
Naw they moved to way bigger venues in 2011. They went from Fillmore to the Fox in the Bay and from House of Blues to the Wiltern in LA. Both those venues are over twice the size of where they were before.
That said, I really wonder what west coast attendance will be like next time. It’ll be a couple years since they played here next time around. And two last minute tour cancelations was just brutal.
I guess I have just never really noticed this big change in popularity over the years, but I could be wrong so I will just fuck off. #umphlove
I honestly didn’t really notice it until I was in Lafeyette and the place was a ghost town. I attributed this to the expensive pods.
And then seeing UMBowl sell so poorly compared to the past.
It sucks to see, but I totally get it I’ve always been the hugest UM fan, but 90% of their new songs do not do it for me. They seem to have abandoned everything that I loved about their music in these new tunes. The jams feel contrived. I’m hoping this weekend proves this post wrong, but ditching the Raw Stewage and instead having two regular band picks sets already has a bad taste in my mouth.
This just means regular set. It’s always been known that they would be doing four typical umbowl quarters spread out over the weekend along with two regular sets. I don’t understand why I keep seeing complaints about this.
this is my kinda thread!
I didn’t know until yesterday I guess. Don’t remember seeing it.
Will one of the “band’s picks” sets at UMBowl be a debut of the (likely) shitty new album they’ve been teasing?
- yes
- no, just a typical shitty 2021 set
- DBS 10th anniversary set

Hey that would be a really cool idea!
So kangfirmed its not gonna happen
I’d be cool with an album debut set tbh. They’re otherwise giving us shit, so minuswell be new shit
