Lolol imagine going to Morocco for UM
This would be a head scratcher but it’s not really the case for anyone. It’s an incredible part of the world a lot of people may not have on their list otherwise
Not yet, but if you could give me all possible dialog trees, that’d be swell. Be careful closing all my doors please.
That being said I was reminded next year is limited to domestic travel only / save money / maybe get a 2nd dog so I’m probably out on this. Jealous of those going though. Let me know if you need recs in Rabat or Fez
Tell Kelly to come party in Morocco
She’s the one that reminded me no international travel next year. Plus that’s new puppy time
Get a wookdog and bring it to Morawkshow.
Only knowing what I know about you from here, I fully expect you to convince Kelly to let you have a wolverine or a Bengal tiger. Maybe both.
The danger is she might let me. Bet I could buy a tiger on the Moroccan black market.
Ive always heard their hash pales in comparison to lebanon, and is more commercial/cheap/low quality
It all pales in comparison to Oregon brah.
I think what they need to really jumpstart the UMeconomy is to evaluate how the blockchain can be leveraged.
Most NFTs have been speculation/land grabs, and the vast majority will go to zero. But the underlying technology is here to stay. Call them by whatever name but they’ll be ubiquitous in 3-5 years. You might be asking, ubiquitous for what? You name it. Concert tickets, the title to your house, memberships to anything, your mortgage etc. A token is simply a verifiable digital asset. In an increasingly blended world of IRL & online, proof of ownership in a secure, verifiable way will be paramount. The ability to engage & reward using blockchain will be a game changer.
Fyp
You’re UMsufferable
There are some really good points and parallels in this thread even with all of the expected UMSUX posts.
I’ll beat this dead horse a little more. From my perspective as a longtime jambander, UM is just at that point where they have to figure out how to make their model/music viable for changing (aging) fanbase. They pivoted a few (maybe closer to 10) years ago when they started building families to the two-weeks on, two-weeks off more multi-night runs type of scheduling. We’re at an inflection point again, and at this point, we haven’t seen much of a pivot.
We have seen some long-time UMinc. employees depart over the last little bit, which is necessary. They’re going to have to continue to decrease overhead, move back to smaller rooms/theaters, and slow down on merch (more tour posters, fewer show-specific posters, etc). What’s crazy to me is that moe. and SCI have given them a pretty decent playbook to follow, they’ve just either been slow to adapt, or think they can work themselves back into increased relevancy.
tldr: fire KB, play 1/2 as many shows in smaller rooms, cut down the size of the org in general, and accept the slow march towards death.
reminds me that they covered ‘March of the S.O.D.’ a few times. would be a heady 19 year bust out
I wonder if they could do your suggestion but have 1, maybe 2, big blowouts a year, like Phish with Sphere and Mondegreen. UM Bowl and something else at the end of summer. Cap it off with a 4 night NYE run.
