The encores part made me laugh. Seriously? Who TF even cares, it’s like at the very bottom of the list of things you could cite for declining interest. Sure a bad encore can be a bit of a buzzkill in the moment, and we can nitpick that because the bort is a very particular segment of the fanbase but no one ever says “Yeah, I saw them last time they came around… encore was kinda weak, probably won’t go see them again.”

Yeah, a good encore can be pretty sick but a stinker can def leave a bad taste in your mouth. One of my only complaints is taking way too long to come back out and building all sorts of tension, then dropping a standard 3-4 minute tune. I think there should always be more thought put into what truly makes a good encore. The bands we are passionate about have way more than enough options that fit into this category. A truly lame encore choice is kinda a ‘fuck you’ to the venue/city, IMO. But the encore idea alone is not enough to push me away.
I’d like if Joel would set some kind of trippy ambience on their way out, and it builds into a killer song for the encore. But as much as I stan for Front Porch, I’d rather them use a half hour for it instead of 10 minutes during the encore.
Talking about stinkers, I’ve seen where a band encores some hit that they already played during the regular set before.

I saw someone in this same thread reference the UMs fandom getting older and having kids as a reason for declining ticket sales, which isn’t without merit. But made me jokingly think “fellas, should we tell the young Goose and Billy Strings fans to not have kids to protect their ticket sales?”
If the boys go on hiatus next year, can we still be friends?
