the McHenry shows were great because that place was an actual drive-in. although Bridgeview was cool in it’s own way too.
yeah once the sun starts setting nobody can see in a car with tinted windows, it was perfect.
Between MAGAgain and bird flu, your wish probably isn’t far from reality.
Except MAGA will never enforce social distancing
Saw my first Cheese show tonight…shit, have I been missing out? My understanding was that it was going to be hippy dippy schlock + dubstep. I was pleasntly surprised by the variety of sounds they covered, with the percussive heavy industrial grooves being my favorite of them.
Cheese fucking rules.
Are there occasional moments that are eye-rolling and schlocky? Sure.
But what you experienced is the norm, imo.
Welcome
Cheese is great, but their song rotation seems more limited than some other bands. After 15 shows or so it felt like I was last the point of seeing anything new. But those first few shows really did it for me.
100% this.
Glad to see so many late 90’s archival releases hitting nugs lately.
Yeah the “wife” really liked this one and sounds like my sister grabbed it for us since they went to the shows.
Feel you have to be trying to have a not-good-time at Cheese.
Who’s got a solid rec of SCI’s better jamtronica jams?
I mean obviously the aforementioned 6/19/04 set with STS9.
6/6/14 Shantytown
1/31/25 Rivertrance will give you a taste for how they do it.
Any show from 2014 and onward has a chance at some jamtronica shit. Especially Rivertrance, Shantytown and Rosie.
Cheese jams hard. Always has. And I’ve had fun at a lot of Cheese shows.
I think the hate is because its like someone told them about jams bands and they decided to play it to a preschool. Same with Keller.
@snuckaskitchen had some good examples.
Here’s a few from some older shows, pre-hiatus, that illustrate jamtronica starting to infiltrate their sound.
10/26/04 - Shantytown
10/29/04 - Desert Dawn
10/11/05 Big Shoes - Absolutely love this jam.
And then, perhaps the best illustration of modern day cheese jamtronica:
Electric Forest ‘19 - 75 min Rosie
I was listening to some cheese throughout the workday, E Forest 2018 and another 2018 CO show specifically, and I was reminded how when they’re on, it’s great, but it is so easy to be taken out of the moment by how awful and youth group sounding their songs can be.
I still might swing their caverns shows this year because it’s pretty cheap
