Good news with these shorter songs, there should be more room for improv.
You donāt know what you want.
Fair point, but I canāt help but feel that their energy live is mirrored by their studio efforts in many regards. Less interested in jamming, risk taking, planning every move on the setlist, less songs in rotation overall, the types of stews they play, etc.
That is the first smart thing youāve said in awhile Perren.
This feels different to me⦠UM have always been capable of being a very multifaceted band. But the music was always progressive and dynamic and even the songs I hated I appreciated something about them.
But the complete anti-thesis to everything they used to be about. It sounds like a bayliss solo album not UM.
I dunno.
I was listening to phish radio the other day and they played the studio version of blaze on⦠I thought to myself, imagine if twiddle wrote this god awful song. It would get absolutely relentlessly shit on. But I guess phish gets a pass from their phans cause itās phish (it shouldnāt, itās a shit song). I think this album is kinda the same for me. Would I give this album a second listen if it was some band Iād never heard of?? No. But I kinda like it just cause itās umphreys. Fanboiād
Thatās how a ton of phish songs are that arenāt the massive elaborately composed ones. Especially if Trey writes lyrics. shudders
Thanks boo
All phish songs tbh
You Enjoy myself is a masterpiece.

Hard pass
Aight, just listened for the first time. First 2/3 or so was cool, but kinda just that faux classic thing that rock bands have been doing forever (also whatās with Page playing all those b7?). Vocal section jsut ruined it for me. Now I know where all the super generic jamband funk comes from
Kinda makes me wanna listen to Long Distance Runaround or Kimble
nah Blaze On sucks
Yeah the vocal section at the end is horrendous. Totally a trey move.
Duality of jam
Every song can be masterpiece of you make a horrendous?
Imagine if Phish wrote Gulf Stream
