I really enjoyed the Vail IDKWIW and thought RR Small Strides was solid. As Bron said, a handful of these tracks have potential to be really good live additions to the catalog. Gotta just hope with 14 new tracks to pull from they try to extend some of these don’t drown sets in some of the more standard and bland stuff
I dig the album. Hiccups is dope. They definitely released the weakest tunes first.
How about now reminds me of the theme song from cheers
that is quite an endorsement. cheers theme is top 20 tv themes
Iv always said they need to make an album called “wizard burial ground” filled with all their heavier and more progressive tunes. I think wbg and pay that snucka have the potential to be the best studio songs since mantis if they were done right. What other songs do yall think would fit my fantasy album?
For the proggy side: Crooked One and Dump City
I dont mind it at all. Girlfriend gonna dig it who is not into umphreys at all really except i know she loves it just like the rest of us when it clicks. Its like indie rock with a little duran duran a little hall and oates a little talking heads.
I wonder when we’ll see some of these songs debut. I feel like they never get together to practice anymore so we could be waiting awhile and/or have some really sloppy first few plays
Alright, just finished and it was honestly kinda worse than I expected. I’m having a very hard time finding any redeeming qualities in like 90% of the songs and I really just don’t understand what they’re going for. Half of it sounds like a downtempo Wang Chung rip off with hardly a discernible vocal melody.
The Always October > Fenced In > New Wings sequence is brutal: boring songwriting, annoying lyrics/delivery. Dayville Monarchy is probably the most refreshing/interesting tune on the record for my tastes and Ordinary Times sounds like it could’ve fit on It’s You. I get why people like Escape Goat, but meh…
I’m tired and grumpy since I’m in the office right now, but to me the album felt like K Mart New Wave music that was flat out boring most of the time.
Hoping it grows on me though. Small strides definitely did
New album release day is a great reminder that nobody listens to jam band studio albums for a reason.
Maybe we should do a music league category where we pick the best jam band studio album songs
RIP music league
I still feel like UM is capable of putting out a good studio record. Maybe it was the plan originally, but I feel like this record, more than any other UM record, could’ve really benefitted from an outside producer that works on this kind of music.
They’re long overdue to try an outside producer. Don’t think that’s gonna ever happen at this point unfortunately
Yea I felt anxious waiting for it to be over.
In late 2019 I was told they’d reached out to a bunch of really well known, established, producers, so it was definitely on their mind. Hard to say if COVID scuttled it or if it just didn’t happen
Escape Goat and the singles will be fine live I imagine.
So much is going to be the next AiT. Calling it now.
This self produced right?
