This is so good.
Pete Tong was in Austin last night. No clue how his DJ sets are though
Cheer up Charlie’s.
They’re fire for a deaf guy.
Thanks
Going with ex “wife” to a future funk and vaporwave party. I don’t really know what future funk is, but I’m always open for a new thing to complain about because I’m deeply unhappy and unfulfilled in life.
Probably gonna suck
I’m sure everyone will be having a blast but me.
Future funk is a subgenre of electronic music that blends elements of funk, disco, and Japanese city pop with modern production techniques. It originated in the early 2010s, influenced by the vaporwave movement, and is known for its nostalgic, upbeat, and danceable sound.
Key characteristics of future funk include:
Heavy Sampling: It often features samples from 1970s and 1980s funk, disco, and city pop tracks, typically speeding them up or adding modern beats.
Upbeat Tempo: The music tends to have an energetic, fast-paced feel, making it perfect for dancing.
Retro Aesthetic: Future funk is deeply rooted in nostalgia, often accompanied by visual aesthetics that borrow from 80s anime, VHS effects, and neon colors.
Funky Basslines and Synths: The genre heavily incorporates funky basslines, bright synthesizers, and rhythmic grooves that feel fresh but familiar.
Disco and City Pop Influence: It draws significant inspiration from Japanese city pop, which was popular in the 1980s, blending Western and Japanese influences.
Notable future funk artists include Yung Bae, Macross 82-99, and Saint Pepsi.
Dont let them ruin your bad time
This is a bunch of nerds dancing terribly but earnestly and I kinda love it. Too loud though. Need a bengineer
Sounds like city pop. No vaporwave so far
This is actually great. Dude is flirting with house a bit. It’s a party. And I have the best sounding spot in the venue.
Have a big weekend helping people move so I passed, but Skream did a 5 hour house and techno show last night. Videos have me pretty bummed I missed it
Layton Giordani next weekend though
At a deep house party. This stuff just feels like home. Definitely a correlation between how good a crowd is and how few of the attendees are straight white dudes like me.
Nice seeing you finding your happy place
Been loving this brand of techno coming from some Australian and British DJs recently (Mall Grab, DJ Boring, KETTAMA). Not too tech house adjacent and not too aggressively hard but still poignant
Duh.
If I’m in the same city as Prydz, I feel like I have to. He’s not washed quite yet in my book.
