Definitely wasn’t expecting the set of originals to have only 6 songs. A bucket of Jakeless improv was a very nice surprise for my Friday. No JOTYs here, but lots of solid and consistent grooves and ideas. For someone who hates improv, Brendan is sure good at it.

Also, Joel taking the final DBK solo is awesome. So is Bayliss taking the Haji end solo.

The covers set….is covers with sit-ins  It’s more what you’d expect but it’s fine. Really nice to see Hey 19 get its Scotty debut though.

Bayliss getting after it on this slacker. It’s kinda hilarious how much sloppier they sound without Jake but it’s still pretty good

This Wappy really makes the case that they need to go back to the 2011 style return after the improv. In 2014 when they started going from the jam straight into the heavy riff, it worked for what they were doing with it at the time, but since then it’s just turned into a slow 3 minute build up to the heavy riff. If they’re going to spend 3 minutes playing type I then they might as well just go back to the dancey section with the key changes instead of playing the heavy riff over and over for 3 minutes.

Also felt like they didnt rehearse or prepare with the horns at all for set 2. They mostly just stood there.

Bayliss crushed set 1 though. And the best part of the show is Family Company guy (Sam?) bro out with Bayliss during Debra. Two dudes who both just really want to fuck Debra. Also it sounded like Sam(?) had never heard the song before, they just told him to sing super high in F# about a girl named Debra that he wants to get with.

Also I’ve been thinking about this since I saw the setlist the night of the show: it says hold Eb at the end of Andy’s Last Beer but TECHNICALLY its a D#
