I thought Scotty did a fine job last night. It seemed like he played the compositions in a fashion similar to Kris but without all the extra pizzaz. Higgins was the only song I can remember where he got a little bit wonky through some of the changes but even those weren’t that bad. I thought there were a few times in set 1 where he didn’t quite match the peaks that the band was going for but that’s probably just because I’m used to Kris going terminator on that type of stuff over the years. Seems like he was able to lock in with them in the 2nd set which was probably one of my favs I’ve seen in a while. Song selection was choice all night and A Go Go was a pleasant cherry on top

I didn’t really notice last night but I was relistening to small strides and the sweet dreams vocals are rough. I guess I get so distracted by his beauty that sometimes I ignore the vocal deficiencies

I’m going to really go out on a limb here and say that the jams have an early 2010’s looseness. It’s like they’ve gone back 10-ish years. Like they’ve taken a paint remover to the high-gloss finish they’ve shellacked over themselves. They sound free. The music sounds joyful. The lyrics have meaning again.

I dunno. I’m really feeling Umphrey’s McGee again for the first time in a long time. Like, I’ve listened to three whole shows. I didn’t even skip No Diablo and I ALWAYS skip No Diablo.

It’s good to be a UM fan again.

I hear him on Higgins but not really on IC. The chorus without the high harmonies is rough for sure.
