Man this Lie is absolutely sick
I thought it was great and Jake really steered the ship properly to get back into the backend of the song. Was curious how that would play out. They can definitely top this version though if they want to continue dedicating 25 min of a set to this song
Really impressed with this as well. Have heard so many ugly abrupt transitions from jam back to song in Silent Type and Small Strides this year…this on the other hand is really patient and beautifully done.
SOTY candidate?
I don’t know. I can think of a handful I prefer. Cleveland, Minny N2, Wilmington, Bend, Anaheim for a few.
The improv here is decent but is too formulaic and this goes for a lot of shows lately. They are jamming a ton, but almost every jam is ending with raging Jake peak and it’s kinda repetitive.
Booth is a great example. Tight funk groove going, but Jake just steers it into an unnecessary rock peak. Walletsworth jam is good but has two separate heavy peaks. Still a great jam because I’m a sucker for proggy metal jams.
Night Nurse as well…starts with a great moody Rhodesy groove but somehow it turns into minor mode rock peak. All of these jams are good in isolation but overall it’s too monotonous in a single set.
This probably the best Walletsworth I’ve heard in quite a while! I actually prefer it to BTL in this show
When looking back on the 15/16 jams too I realized they would all be clear JOTY of 2023
All I’ve heard from this so far is Wallets and it was good shit, sure a moody prog jam>nice Jake peak but yeah sure I’ll take that.
lol as much as I don’t want to be a downer, I feel like I should be vocal about songs that imo, bring the set/flow down. Booth Love isn’t doing it for me. They can jam other tunes and I won’t have to sit through those vibes. Thanks for the shoutout. Feel free to @ me here or on pt my brahs
They’re jamming staircase, that I can get behind
You know you’re just wasting all your time.
+1 on booth love hate. Takes forever to get to the jam and then the jams are rarely that interesting. They should axe the intro or the outro because they are both repetitive and long.
I’ve thought that since forever, the song being as repetitive as it is doesn’t need a 3-4 minute intro every time.
I kinda feel this way about the ending of Draco too.
This is my issue with post COVID UM. I’m glad they’re going for it, but why are the dance jams turning into rock peaks? What happened to massive multi section non-rock jams?
I agree with everyone else’s complaints about this show, including Booth Love being useless except…this Walletsworth is a gem. That is all. First real jam of the show and it’s a lot more patient than everything comes after. Night Nurse gets a good groove going too.
1/14 Silent Type is better than anything from those years for me.
Touche
It’s silly how much better that jam is than anything else this year. It’s truly next level, probably top 25 all time UM jam
This seems to have been a thing well before 2020.
It’s definitely always been a thing, but not with the frequency that it is now
