Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part Poo)

I don’t even mind Attachments, I just have seen it at every run I have done since it was debuted

I like Attachments. Probably my fav song of INU/IY

I’m wondering if the band is

  1. Not playing creative improv because they don’t have it in them anymore/weren’t as good as they used to be

  2. Purposefully not playing creative improv because it’s easier not too and they know the fans will still like it

  3. Genuinely think that 10 song sets and playing newer music will create more audience and it’s better musically

It seems like most the venues they play, they are nowhere near selling out (at least for me with Caverns it wasn’t anywhere close), which leads me to think that they are trying to draw a bigger audience, but maybe they just don’t care anymore?

Not sure but would like to know if this is a conscious decision by the band to not blast off into awesome jams like they have proven they are capable of

I think it’s 3 with a bit of 2. I mean they’ve never loved embracing the “jam band” moniker. They’ve been saying it for years. People just chose to roll their eyes and brush it off

Agreed. I figured it was probably a mix. I remember listening to a Bayliss interview in May-ish where they said they considered themselves a prog rock band but who has seen them 50+ times for the songs. Just wish they’d be a little more self aware I suppose

You can thank me for both of those :kissing:

Thank you for both of those.

Oh shit, you were right. I can.

I made a deal with Joel where I would transcribe the 13 Days solos and I honored my end so he honored his end

This is it

Is it really that hard to find shows where they play a few rarities? I mean their last show before this had GITV, Words, Visions, Kimble, and Front Porch; three of which came in succession.

At the end of the day I also don’t think people here are gonna care if the improv isn’t there, regardless of the songs they play. And a number of those older rare songs don’t typically feature improv.

is this the longest the band’s ever gone without debuting a new, actual, song? When’s the last one, It Doesn’t Matter?

Pretty sure it’s some random af song in the encore of 2020 Detroit n2 encore. Bullshit Anthem. Instantly got shelved and somehow avoided crisis on -Bort

Nether at Red Rocks and before that Red Room in early 2020.

If you don’t want to count debuts of songs we already heard in studio form, I think it’d be Suxity from NYE 2019 (I can’t remember for sure but I think they played it live before the studio version was released?).

They did. I don’t think the studio Suxity came out until quarantine was happening. I remember my listening guide for that show having a note about how I had to guess on Suxity since there was nothing to reference previously, and it actually worked out even though they added some type 2 for its debut.

I don’t see the issue with this @snapfam

That’s impossible. New UM songs don’t have jams.

Suxity at NYE before that
