The Fort fiasco
…and tourgigs.
What’s the Fort fiasco?

January 23, 2015
Umphrey’s McGee is thrilled to bring you one of the most unique concert experiences yet — The Fort — held at Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Fort Clinch is one of the most well-preserved 19th century forts in the United States and we’re preparing for battle. Joined by Lettuce each night, Umphrey’s and Live For Live Music will present the first rock shows ever held within its walls.
Limiting capacity to only 1,348 tickets, this intimate affair will be one to add to the list. Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th will feature a set of Lettuce followed by two sets from UM. For those looking to camp, we are providing access to camp grounds immediately outside the state park for only $20.00. Additionally, for the most serious soldiers, umVIP has carefully planned The Fort experience to cater to all your needs, from phenomenal viewing locations, early entry, and private bar/bathrooms to exclusive Fort UM merchandise (Fort UM flag anyone?) and more.
Travel packages with accommodations at The Seaside Amelia Island Inn are also available, just steps away from the beach via a private boardwalk, and a short 3-minute shuttle ride to the Fort. Twenty dollars from every ticket to the The Fort will benefit Fort Clinch State Park to aid in their continued efforts of preservation of this unique and breathtaking oceanfront landmark.
Please join us for an amazing experience, where rock and roll meets the ocean meets a slice of American history*
Wasn’t there a lemonade section to this event too?
Apparently the Town of Fernandina Beach and the legions of cosplay Confederate soldiers in the area weren’t ready for a rock band from the north to play a concert in the hallowed grounds of “The Fort”.
Here is what actually happened:
And the show was ultimately moved to St Augustine where it probably should have been held in the first place.
Yes, the move to St Augustine was the “making lemonade”.
Can’t forget to mention that “UM and it’s fans are known for their heavy drug use”.
They’re not wrong though
The Charlotte Major Rager was a shitshow. The venue was this little stage on a hill that usually sees orchestras/classical “music in the park”, and maybe an acoustic folk act here and there. In no way were they prepared for what was about to happen. It was in a really nice part of town and next to the ritzy mall in CLT. The crowd ended up basically being in the mall parking lot. Wooks everywhere.
They set up this little knee high fence which prevented no one from getting in. Lots of folks getting in free. The beer lines were awful. Took forever and eventually started running out of beer. I was really spun at that show and it was hilarious watching it all unfold. Fucking circus came to town
Just looked at Google Maps. Is that stage actually over a pond? And nice, Dicks Sporting Goods right next to it. Hotel right there as well, that would have been a fun night.
Worst/funniest show ever. Raging the Macy’s parking lot pre and post show was hilarious. Their idea for beer lines was so incredibly dumb: One line to purchase drink tokens with your cash then another line to buy beer with said tokens. Two token/beer max. at a time.
any place/fest that does token bullshit deserves a special place in hell.
our neighborhood 4th of july beer garden sells beers for 7 tickets. you end up with such goofy numbers of leftover tickets that you need to partner up with people to purchase the final beer
FWB can’t put on a show right to save their lives. Every major rager event has lost money and all have had some kind of issue. Charlotte tops the cake though
That was @nsl’s and my 100th show
@nsl can suck it
Dude sucks @ass
thanks for posting this, hadn’t seen this before. I knew that the ball was dropped on UM’s side of the production (briefly mentioned in the article) but interesting to see the city side of it. The comments are worth reading also
lot of NIMBYs in the comments
I love the Umphrey’s McGee band
