There is a niche of nazis that go to metal shows, then the polar opposite that are there to beat the shit out of them. It’s part of the reason I strayed away from that scene. That and straight edge dickheads who’d rip a joint out of your hand and smash it under their shoe

Saw a bunch of hardcore shows in college in WV. Definitely had the metal nazis, metal kids, and straight edge hardcore kids kicking the shit out of each other.
Come to think of it, it was a lot like a phish show

90% of it sucks, but 10% is awesome. I was into prog metal, those dudes can actually play instruments.
The last metal show I ever went to I saw a group of straight edge dudes jump a drunk man who was stumbling by the parking lot of the venue. He waved and yelled some nonsense so they beat the life out of him for simply being drunk in public.

I’ve never seen straight edge dudes target people that weren’t actively provoking them. I actually find substantially fewer annoying idiots at metal shows than jam band shows.

yep I always end up next to some chomping spunion or something, they can be anywhere. Pretty easy to avoid nonsense at metal shows, it’s normally pretty condensed in a few areas.

The straight edge kids from my hometown acted like a gang. They called themselves “lakes area hardcore”. They would show up to high school parties and intimidate kids drinking and smoking.

Was at a Cradle of Filth, Arch Enemy, and Bleeding Through show at Bogarts that was shut down because a hardcore kid stabbed a metal kid.
