Jake to miss 2/26 show

As much as I like to make fun of UM, they are nothing without Jake.

Jake is definitley a big piece of their success. There was a time when he was one of the most interesting and tasteful players around. I dont care much for the arrogance of his playing anymore because i dont think he listens to, or respects, his peers playing, but I dont see them lasting long if he leaves. Sure they could play bars for 200 people, but the name value would be gone.

which was working at a deficit, to begin with

They should have just gone a hiatus years ago.

In hindsight, a nice break around the Similar Skin era would have probably helped them recharge without hurting them too bad. Probably wasnt a feasible option after covid.

Wasnt SS when they were selling out arenas/bigger venues?

FTFY

But yes, which is why it would have been easier to take a break after w/o drastically changing their lifestyles or jeopardizing their financial security.

Boards from last night are up and Bayliss is quick to ā€œsend some positive vibes to Jake, we love you very muchā€.
So at least it doesn’t sound like he was fired.

from the 6 I’ve seen with Scotty I think the positives I always took away is that they are practicing together again and that they are actively listing to eachother during jams and they’ve been way more cohesive.

He’s far less expendable than Kris was. But why the Jake hiatus and who prompted it? The fact that he appears to be playing with Waldman surely makes it seem like he’s not at home dealing with family stuff or any of the other speculative reasons for him being away from the band.

Maybe it’s a positive situation?

Its really none of are business

Its all good. Sharing a hotel with Waldman just requires a 30+ day quarantine. Standard practice.

wait is this still going to be happening? Like, he’s not playing the UM show on 3/19 in Portland but he’s going to play the afters?

i can’t imagine there is any way that jake actually plays any of the three remaining WW dates – and until he is back on stage with that band, i don’t think we can say that he’s not at ā€œhome dealing with family stuff or any of the other speculative reasonsā€

I obviously don’t know much but Bayliss sounded genuine and maybe slightly concerned. I don’t think this is as ugly as some hope.

Something wholesome like packing up the whole gang for a vacation to Wally World.

Just because some of us have moved on from the band and think they suck doesnt mean we wish harm on them as people.

Did i say that? Typically these days, i think most humans would find a little vicarious energy through juicy rumors like band breakups or smoking crack with Oingo Boingo’s trumpeteer. Never once said anything about harm or whatever.
