03/10/2016 was my favorite. Honorable mention 02/07/2013 and 10/30/2013
It’s really not though. Weird show with weird flow, but some interesting jams and song selection. I’ve seen plenty waaaay worse um shows
Sacramento 3/18/2012 is probably the best one I’ve seen. Fantastic show. Tahoe 3/24/2016 and LA 3/18/2017 were big time stand outs too.
Worst is probably the Portland show I saw earlier this year. Just brutal.
been debating about mine and I think I have to settle on this one too. 2/19/12 gets some consideration but I think I’m going with Sandpoint.
It wasn’t good in person cause they just literally never got the energy going until wappy and ringo at the end of the second set. I’ve never really seen a show from them where it took them so long to get a room going. Honestly can’t speak to how it sounds on tape cause I’be never felt the need to listen back
Yea just everything seemed off that night. I’ve never listened back and don’t plan on it really.
I definitely felt the same way in person, but turns out it’s actually a decently solid show on tape. I’ve left shows feeling way more disappointed than I did after that one (Burlington 2014, Halloween 2014, etc…)
As shakira once said:
You know the tapes don’t lie
And I’m starting to feel it’s right
All the random songs, the lack of flow
Don’t you see, baby, this is umphreys
Muncie ‘08 must’ve been a super shitty venue. That show is to listen to.
best UM - tie between 6/11/04 & 12/11/04
non-UM - david byrne american utopia tour, going in blind not realizing what to expect
No it’s not. '08 Muncie is probably the second worst show I’ve been to.
Portland, OR 2023
Muncie '08
the Terrapin Crossroads show
Easily the three worst UM shows I’ve seen.
If you all are referring to the 2017 Terrapin show, that is one of the first ones that got rec’d to me through Reddit. Said it was a life changing show.
These types of questions are always difficult for me. Looking over my list, these would probably all be in the running:
6/30/07
7/1/11
12/29/11
12/30/13
9/26/15
6/2/17
That show was bad and such a letdown given the venue and price point of the ticket.
I’ve seen such fantastic shows there. Spafford and moe always threw down fucking heaters there.
definitely a life changing experience going to that venue and seeing your favorite band. If you’re not familiar, Terrapin Crossroads was an extremely tiny venue in San Rafael, CA created by the Grateful Dead’s bassist, Phil Lesh.
It’s such a bummer they closed. Terrapin was such a staple in the Bay Area community. The summer daytime fests, the Grate Room shows, the restaurant food fucked hard, free shows with legit ass musicians everyday at 4:20pm. The “community” still puts on shows from time to time in San Rafael but the venue was just such a mainstay for the 10 or so years it was open.
Was a rent issue?
Who?
That and I think Phil was just tired of being heavily involved. COVID definitely had an impact.
It’s a fucking Jeep dealership or some lame shit now.
sorry,
94.1 KPFM radio engineer, Phil Lesh.
