We have too many fourth tier hambland threads to not have a BP thread. Forget about the fact that they haven’t played a show advertised as Brothers Past for the better part of a decade…
Listening to 11/16/2005, 3/24/2012 and 3/13/2013 today. I really wish their full discography and some live shows were on Spotify.
Is there a consensus list of best shows from these guys? Haven’t listened in a bit mainly because nothing live is available on spotify. I seem to remember loving one of those Albany shows and Cleveland 2012 a lot.
For anyone interested I have a good amount of live shows and albums uploaded online. Just slide in my DM’s.
These PT clowns poo poo 2/18/2006 but that’s the show that hooked me and I think it’s top-tier BP. Most of spring 2012 was fire, and you can stream a lot of 2012 on their bandcamp. If I had to make a UM analogy, 2003-2005 BP was 2006-2008 UM (pure uncut raw most shows.) 2012 BP is 2011 UM (a pleasantly surprising later career resurgence that stands alongside anything they ever did.)
TL;DR – my personal top 3 are probably 11/16/2005, 2/18/2006, and 3/24/2012. You can’t go wrong with most 03-05 shows or anything from March 2012.
went to college with a dude named tom mckee. my buddy had an email address which was often times confused with people who were trying to reach the tom mckee from brothers past.
went to a BP show at rex’s and at set break tried to have a “what a coinkidink that my buddy gets your emails”-type convo with BP’s tom mckee, who didn’t seem to give a shit about this connection.
That show is so good, and the sound is unreal. I’ve def played that one more than any other BP show.
I would add 1-19-10, Live at Silk City to the great list. Fairly certain that date is correct, but the Live at Silk City is def right. It’s an all instrumental, and nearly all improv show. Shit is fire!
It’s amazing how when BP moves from song structure into a jam the jam immediately sounds like it could have been going on foreverrrr when just a minute or 2 have passed.
