I listened to this 2nd set on the way home and yeeeeesh… its like they all did valium at setbreak. Sorry but this is the sound of a band out of ideas. No energy, everything was disjointed outside of that bit in Plunger and that was way too short… i saw the track times and got excited but Im sorry the 2nd set is awful.

I dont see myself ever listening back to this show, or probably any UM show i see these days, but i enjoyed that set in the moment

The first set did nothing for me at all, so improv of any kind was welcome and i thought both plunger and small strides had some interesting moments

But yea, its UM so you are probably right that it actually sucked and i was just having fun

I want to be excited about UM again

I think this is a bit of an overreaction because any set w/ Plunger Bridgeless and Reso can’t be too bad.

Thought the Small Strides and 2nd Plunger were good. 2nd half of Bridgeless is def a repeated stew but it’s still a decent groove. The first plunger jam is really dull though. At times this year it sounds like Jake has forgotten how to improv.

Yes! The 2nd half is definitely is. I know I’ve heard it in a Synco.

By any chance is it St Louis '14?? Palindrome segment in that show

This was my take on 1st listen, I can go back but I stand by it. I’m not talking about song selection, because that’s good (and maybe that alone means it’s not horrible) but the jams are bland and uninspired for such long track times. Small Strides is decent, that is true, but so much of it is really just them trying to find something and nothing is happening.

This. It’s not all the time, like Bluebird had some real good stuff and is the best show I’ve heard of what I’ve heard of recent stuff, but it doesnt seem like he’s able to lock in most of the time and he’s not listening. Jake likes to lead a lot, which is fine if you’re delivering solid ideas, but this year it seems like he’s been all over the place more often than not, not only not enough patience but not enough solid direction for everyone to latch on to when he’s out in front.

Broader topic for another thread, but I really expected them to be hype and delivering with Kris once they settled in after the first few shows, but it hasn’t happened yet at least not with any consistency.

I think it is this one, but I thought it was on youtube.

That Bottom Half is really good. I did 6 or 7 of those SE shows in a row. Met Ben and Jenny at the first night I did in Winston Salem. Coming up on 10 years…

Yah this plunger 2nd jam is really pleasant. Jake needs to break out the slide more often.
