yeah after listening I’m bummed I didn’t make it out to the Werk Out this year. This show is way better than '15 & '18
Remind Me has a nice soaring jam.
Dayville gets a strong debut.
Bad Friday went past two points where I expected them to wrap it up.
Mulches had a unique jam.
Nothing super huge but a little meat on all the bones.
I re-listened to this show today. That’s saying something, right there. It’s not perfect - in particular Small Strides improv seems to be stagnating which is telling giving how well everything else is going lately - but man, the highlights:
Mulche’s is such a perfect mellow capper on this show after a show full of excellent yet still very much “frenetic festival” improv. And the transition back in is perfect. More non-dub Mulche’s jams, please.
Dayville is a version I will be happy to vote on HOF next year despite the fact I’m very lukewarm on the composition and Jake does not sing this version well. What a ride they take it on. This is probably the most pre 2010 UM aspect of the show in terms of the number of genre shifts it has. And yay for ending the set on open-ended improv!
Floor is not even 5 minutes but Bayliss just goes completely nuts and Jake plays off him perfectly. One of the most euphorically raging (and thus, authentically UM) jams I’ve heard them do in some time.
